1 Year Closure Of I-78 West Ramp To Begin Friday In Somerset County
The closure, which was supposed to happen last week, is now set to begin on Friday night, according to the NJ Department of Transportation.

WARREN, NJ — The year-long closure of an Interstate 78 on-ramp in Warren is expected to begin on Friday, announced the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
This work was originally scheduled for last Friday night, Nov. 7, and was rescheduled because of inclement weather.
The I-78 westbound on-ramp from King George Road southbound is scheduled to close as part of the I-78 westbound Bridge over Tributary of Dead River replacement project in Warren Township.

In addition, I-78 westbound is scheduled to have lane closures on Friday night to shift traffic.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 until 7 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 the left lane on I-78 westbound is scheduled to be closed to reposition the construction barrier. A second lane will be closed later in the night to restripe the road and shift traffic to the left to create a work zone on the right side of the roadway.
At least one lane will be maintained on Friday night. By 7 a.m. Saturday, all three lanes will reopen and be shifted to the left.
On-Ramp Closure
In addition, beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 the on-ramp from King George Road southbound onto I-78 westbound is scheduled to be closed and detoured.
The ramp will remain closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to be completed in the fall 2026.
The following detour will be in place:
King George Road southbound to I-78 westbound Detour:
- Traffic on King George Road southbound wishing to take the ramp onto I-78 westbound will be directed to take King George Road northbound, which becomes Valley Road/CR 512
- Turn left to stay on Valley Road/CR 512
- Turn left onto Martinsville-Liberty Corner Road/CR 525
- Take the ramp onto I-78 westbound
The $6.1 million federally funded I-78 westbound Bridge over Tributary of Dead River replacement project in Warren Township will replace the bridge superstructure and deck.
The project will advance in stages using precast deck panels to minimize construction time.
In addition, the project will upgrade the guiderail. All three lanes will be maintained during the majority of construction with some lane closures at night or on weekends.
The project is expected to be completed in the fall 2026.
