Dear Editor,

As a 22 year resident of Warren, I believe it is time to give back to the community that has given me so much. I left India at age 23 in pursuit of a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences. My experience is typical of many immigrants: I came to the US to pursue education and success in a country that affords amazing opportunity for those with talent, ambition, and a strong work ethic.

Years ago former President Ronald Reagan described America as “the shining city on a hill,” a vision that eventually brought me to Warren Township to raise my family with my wonderful wife, Bonnie and our three children. I have seen the fruition not only of my first dream of an American graduate degree but also many more that followed: a successful corporate career in the pharmaceutical industry, building a small business, and becoming an entrepreneur.

I still believe Warren Township is the shining “town” on a hill that Reagan spoke about, and I’d like to help ensure that our town will always be an ideal community for families, young professionals and retirees. Too often, our Township Committee has operated in vacuum, making critical decisions about developments, tax policy, infrastructure and historical significance without enough resident input.

As a resident, businessman, scientist, husband, and parent, I often think about ways to make life better. And I believe my ideas paired with input from our residents can guarantee a better community.

Our residents are intelligent, creative, and civic minded. Failure of town leaders to recognize this is an insult. Not seeking their input in the future of our town is governmental malpractice. As a Township Committee member, I promise to bring transparency and accountability to decision-
making. I have years of management and financial experience to serve the community, and I will absolutely challenge the status quo. Therefore, I am running for the Warren Township Town Committee three year seat in the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022.

Sincerely,
Ashok Rakhit
