Warren Police Aims to Curb Motor Vehicle Burglary
Residents are cautioned to lock their vehicles and ensure that residences or businesses are well lit during evening and overnight hours.

From the Warren Police Department:
Due to the recent incidents of motor vehicle burglaries that occurred in Warren Township over the weekend of Feb. 27, the Warren Township police would like to provide some helpful tips so that residents do not become the next victim.
Residents are encouraged to ensure that they always lock their vehicles, whether the vehicle is parked on one's street, in one's driveway or in one's garage. A would-be thief will generally move on to the next vehicle when encountering a locked vehicle, as opposed to breaking into it and drawing attention, the police department reports.

Residents must ensure that their residences or businesses are well lit during the evening and overnight hours. The police department reports that thieves tend to look for darker areas to commit these burglaries for less visibility by passing motorists, neighbors and police.
Residents must not leave spare keys or anything of value in their vehicles. Purses, wallets, electronics, vehicle valet keys, sunglasses, credit cards, cash and cell phones should never be left inside a vehicle, especially in plain view. If such items must be kept in a vehicle, the Warren Township police recommend that residents conceal and secure their items properly.

Additionally, the police department reminds residents that vehicular burglaries can lead to other crimes, such as fraud and identity theft. The department suggests limiting the amount of personal information one keeps in his or her vehicle as well as keeping a record all of serial numbers of one's valuables.
