Warren Township Schools Principals Outline 1:1 Initiative at National Conference

For a second consecutive year, Warren Middle School Principal Robert Comba and Mt. Horeb Principal Scott Cook presented at the national conference of the Association for Middle Level Education (AMLE) in Austin, Texas, sharing the district’s journey in establishing a 1:1 learning environment.

The term “1:1” refers to a school issuing each enrolled student an electronic device in order to access the Internet along with digital textbooks and coursework. In their presentation on Oct. 12 - entitled “One-to-One Initiative: From Concept to Practice,” Comba and Cook outlined how the Warren Township School District implemented its Chromebook program to embed the use of technology into daily instruction for Grades 3-8 over the last 4 years.

Sixth graders were first issued individual Chromebook laptop computers to take home in the 2013-2014 school year. Grade 5 students followed the next year, while Grade 4 students received Chromebooks to use in the classroom a year later. This year, all students in grades 3-8 received Chromebooks, with grades 3 & 4 assigned an in-class device only and grades 5-8 students able to use their school laptops at home as well.

“By being accepted to present at this conference, Warren Township Schools was one of 300 school districts from across the nation able to showcase best practices,” says Comba.
