Envelope Containing Fake Social Security Cards Found

Fake documents can be used to gain employment for undocumented workers.

Green Brook police said a supervisor with Staples reported finding an envelope containing nine false social security cards in the store's parking lot on Wednesday.

The cards contained various numbers and names, police noted.

False social security cards are often used by undocumented workers needing to provide the cards as proof of their eligibility to work. Such documents can sell for as much as $100, according to news reports, and people charged with making them—or presenting them—face a fourth degree charge of possessing fraudulent government documents.

Green Brook police notified the Social Security Administration of the numbers used on the cards and secured them at police headquarters.
