Mailboxes, Lights Damaged on Tuttle, Old Somerville Roads

Very unpatriotic criminals damage mailboxes, lights on July 4, Watchung police say.

The Fourth of July Holiday was diminished for some Watchung residents who discovered damage to their mailboxes and light fixtures early on the holiday.

Watchung police said four residents—three on Tuttle Road and one on Old Somerville Road—reported damage to their mailboxes and light fixtures that occurred at 4 a.m. Witnesses reported seing a vehicle fleeing the area, and police are investigating the incidents.

Police also received a report of damage to a light fixture near the driveway of an Old Somerville Road resident that occurred sometime between 7 p.m. July 3 and 7:30 p.m. July 4. The resident reported the cost to repair or replace the fixture to be about $700.
