1 Dead After NJ House Fire That Began In Basement, Officials Say
The fire started Sunday night just before midnight, and crews arrived to see smoke and flames showing from the home.
PATERSON, NJ —One person was found dead after firefighters extinguished a fire that appears to have started in the basement of a Paterson home early Monday morning, officials said.
The fire broke out in the 400 block of Hamilton Avenue around midnight, according to the Paterson Fire Department. Firefighters responded to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the two-story home.
First responders located a man's body in the basement of the home, said the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office. The victim has not yet been identified.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to four people who were displaced by the fire, an NJ.com report said.
