Attempted Murder Charge For NJ Man In Midday Shooting: Officials

The State Police Fugitive Task Force arrested the 27-year-old Thursday, several weeks after a shooting which seriously injured another man.

PATERSON, NJ — Authorities charged a Paterson man with attempted murder and weapons offenses after a shooting in late December, which seriously wounded another man.

Paterson Police officers were called to the area of Highland Street and Park Place just after 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, officials said. They found a 28-year-old city resident suffering from gunshot wounds, and first responders transported him to the hospital.

Officers also located a potential crime scene in the area. Investigators later identified Dandre Jacobus as the suspect, according to city police and the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

The New Jersey State Police Fugitive Task Force arrested Jacobus, 27, in South Hackensack on Thursday morning.

He faces a first-degree attempted murder charge and second-degree charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and being a certain person not to possess weapons, officials said. Prosecutors are seeking for Jacobus to remain in jail ahead of trial.

Authorities did not mention a possible motive for the shooting, and said more information would be released when it becomes available.
