WAYNE, NJ — Wayne Police arrested an "extremely intoxicated" man early on New Year's Day after he shoved and kicked officers and injured one cop's shoulder, police said.

The man's family member had called an ambulance around 2:50 a.m. and three officers also arrived to assist, according to a report from Detective Captain Dan Daly.

"Once on-scene, the officers found the male to be highly agitated and aggressive towards them," Daly said.

The family member asked officers to help the intoxicated man, who was "cursing and screaming" at them.

Police said the man, identified as Justo Correa, shoved one of the officers who was trying to communicate with him. Officers were able to handcuff him after a struggle, but one sustained a shoulder injury.

A sergeant then arrived on scene to help move Correa into one of the police vehicles, Daly said. Correa struggled against the officers and also kicked the sergeant while they tried to put him in the vehicle, according to Daly's report.

Officials charged Correa, 42, with terroristic threats, obstruction of a governmental function, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest. He was charged on a summons and released.
