Fatal Crashes At 20-Year High In Passaic County Last Year, State Data Shows
Overall in 2024 there were 650 fatal crashes in New Jersey, and 687 people died as a result.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — More people died on Passaic County roadways last year than at any other point in the past 20 years, data from New Jersey State Police shows.
In 2024, there were 32 fatal crashes in the county and 33 people were killed, according to the NJSP database. The last year there were that many traffic deaths in Passaic County was 2003, records show.
In total last year, 19 drivers, 12 pedestrians, and 2 passengers were killed in collisions in Passaic County.

The 32 fatal crashes took place in the following communities:
- Clifton: 5
- Hawthorne: 2
- Passaic: 6
- Paterson: 8
- Pompton Lakes: 1
- Ringwood: 1
- Totowa: 1
- Wayne: 5
- West Milford: 3
The county is currently developing a Local Safety Action Plan to address concerns on roads in all 21 Passaic County municipalities, which will also allow the county to apply for federal funding that supports safety upgrades on local roadways.
