Former Wayne Police Chief Dies

After retiring from Wayne Police Department in 1986, Robert Pringle went on to direct security at Wayne General Hospital for 10 more years.

WAYNE, NJ — Longtime Wayne resident and former police chief Robert Pringle died Friday, April 24, the Wayne Police Department announced on Instagram.

In an online tribute, the department wrote Pringle and his family moved to Wayne Township in 1950 and went to work for local police in the mid 50s.

Pringle retired from the department after 30 years. During his tenure, he climbed the ranks and took the reins before retiring in 1986. Throughout the years, he also volunteered with the Wayne Fire Department, Community Fire Company of Mountain View and Pompton Falls Company No. 3.

Following his retirement, Pringle spent another 10 years working as director of security for Wayne General Hospital, the department said in its online post.

A private funeral will be held Wednesday, April 28, for Pringle's family.
