Monday Fire Started In Wayne Truck Repair Shop: Police

According to Wayne police, the blaze broke out around 8:45 p.m. at 2360 Hamburg Turnpike.

WAYNE, NJ - A five-alarm fire at a commercial facility on Hamburg Turnpike appears to have been started by sparks let off during metal grinding work in a truck repair shop in the building, according to police.

According to Wayne police, the blaze broke out around 8:45 p.m. at 2360 Hamburg Turnpike and resulted in some of the building's roof and walls to collapsing, police said.

It also caused some oil to leak into a nearby brook and the Ramapo River, police said.

In addition to Passaic County Hazmat, the county health department and New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection also responded. to minimize downstream contamination, a boom was stretched across the river, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire shut down a portion of Hamburg Turnpike until just after 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
