Health Aide Attacked Elderly Patient In North Jersey, Police Say

WAYNE, NJ — A home health aid has been arrested after attacking her elderly patient, according to police.

On Sunday, around 8 p.m., police were called to a home in Wayne on a reported assault.

Officers found the elderly woman with a head injury and several bruises on her body. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The senior’s home health aid, Helen Pitman, a 64-year-old New York woman, told police that her patient had fallen.

Video provided by the elderly woman’s daughters, however, told a different story, according to authorities.

The footage shows Pitman pushing the woman, knocking her onto her bed, where she hit her head on a wall and screamed in pain, police said.

Pitman was arrested and charged with assault on an elderly person, endangering the welfare of an incompetent person, and neglect of elderly. She was processed and then released with a summons.
