Man Forced Mom, Baby Out Of SUV In Passaic County Carjacking: Cops

Officials said that a suspect later fled from Newark Police in the stolen vehicle and crashed it.

TOTOWA, NJ — Officials said a masked man forced a woman and her baby out of their vehicle in the parking lot of a Passaic County clothing store before driving away with it, and later crashing after a police pursuit.

Totowa Police said that around 11:30 a.m. Sunday, a woman in a Range Rover was backing out of a parking space at the TJMaxx on Route 46 West when another car pulled up behind her, blocking her in.

A man wearing a camouflage ski mask got out of the black sedan, and forced the woman and the child out of the Range Rover. Both vehicles fled the area on Route 46 West.

Police said the woman and infant were not injured.

At 5:30 p.m. that day, Newark Police saw the vehicle and began pursuit, according to officials. The driver of the vehicle crashed, and was later arrested.

Totowa Police were able to determine the driver, 43-year-old Desi Lee of East Orange, was the suspect in the carjacking. Lee is currently being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility with multiple charges pending, according to officials.
