Next Week Dubbed 'EMS Week' in Wayne

Council plans to gibe out a proclamation to Wayne's emergency service volunteers.

The following was submitted to Patch by the Wayne First Aid Squad.

The week of May 18 through 24 has been designated “EMS Week” in Wayne.

At the Wayne Township Council Meeting on May 21, Mayor Christopher
Vergano, the Township Administration and Council will present a proclamation
recognizing the members of the Emergency Services in Wayne Township.
Wayne’s Emergency Services include the First Aid Squad, five fire
departments, and the Wayne Police Department.

The Wayne First Aid Squad is a volunteer organization that has been
serving Wayne Township for over 71 years. Our members are available 24
hours a day, seven days a week to respond to emergencies. The Squad
serves those who live, work, or pass through Wayne Township.

The Squad was founded in 1943 by a group of concerned citizens who
saw the need for a local ambulance corps. The Squad answered its first call
on September 1, 1944. Volunteer members of the Wayne First Aid Squad
have provided volunteer emergency ambulance service ever since. Since its
beginning, the Squad has responded to 173,602 emergency calls.

Because it is 100% volunteer, the Squad relies upon the members of
the Wayne business and residential communities to provide the funding
needed to purchase supplies, and maintain its vehicles, and facilities. EMS
Week was started to remind communities of the time and training that these
dedicated volunteers undergo to provide emergency service at no charge.

Anyone interested in Squad membership is asked to go our website,
waynefas.org and fill out an application.
