North Jersey Man Who Stabbed Man To Death Sentenced To Prison

The sentencing comes four years after an altercation that left two men dead.

PASSAIC COUNTY, NJ — A Bergen County man has been sentenced to prison after fatally stabbing someone in the chest four years ago.

Francisco Martinez, 33, of Hasbrouck Heights, was sentenced in accordance with a plea agreement on Aug. 27 by Passaic County Judge Sohail Mohammed.

On July 5, 2021, Martinez was involved in a fight outside of his parents' Totowa Avenue home in Paterson, officials said.

The fight escalated, and Martinez ended up stabbing Johnny Jimenez, 36, of Paterson, in the chest. He was later pronounced dead.

Also involved in the fight was Martinez’s brother and co-defendant, Jose, who was found guilty of the killing of Jimenez’s brother, Jaime, in April. Jose Martinez is currently serving 30 years in NJ state prison, officials said.

In May, Francisco Martinez accepted a plea agreement, pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter.

He has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison and must serve 85 percent of his term before becoming eligible for parole.
