Wayne Coronavirus Totals For Tuesday: 583 Cases, 29 Deaths
Wayne Mayor Christopher Vergano said eight people remain hospitalized.
WAYNE, NJ — On Tuesday, Wayne Township Mayor Christopher Vergano announced 29 additional people have tested positive for the new coronavirus in the township, five more people have died, and eight remain hospitalized.
As of Tuesday, the township had 583 cases of COVID-19, and a total of 29 people had died.
Of the new cases, 18 were men and 11 were women, Vergano said. The average age of the newly diagnosed residents was 55-years-old, and the ages range from 14- to 96-years-old.

The breakdown of the five newly reported deaths is as follows:
- 82, male, died April 7
- 93, female, April 7
- 80, male, died April 9
- 91, male, died April 11
- 69, male, died April 11
In the news conference, Vergano said the weather will be nice in the coming days, but residents going out in public shouldn't let their guard down.

"We need to keep congregating at a minimum. Please speak to your kids again," he said. "All our golf courses, basketball courts, playgrounds continue to be closed. Everything is closed."
Vergano said residents going out for exercise still need to practice safety measures and common sense.
“Walking in the middle of the road is just stupid. Please, start using common sense. I saw people over the weekend walking in the middle of the roadway," he said. "It’s just incredible that I have to say, 'Please don’t walk in the middle of the road.'"
Passaic County will continue its drive-thru COVID-19 screening this Thursday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at William Patterson University.
To be tested, the patient must be a Passaic County resident with a prescription from a doctor.
The drive-thru testing center is currently seeking volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering is asked to email volunteers@passaiccountynj.org.
Residents can also help out by making a monetary donation to the WIN Food Pantry. Checks can be made out to the WIN Food Pantry and sent to PO Box 3341, Wayne.
Donations can also be made to Flag of Greater Wayne through Venmo (@Flagofgreaterwayne) or Zelle at flagofgreaterwayne@gmail.com, or by mailing a check made out to Flag of Greater Wayne to the Mayors Office, 475 Valley Road, Wayne.
This week, Flag is providing breakfast Thursday and Friday, plus lunch on Thursday and Saturday, to the William Patterson Test Center volunteers. It's also sending food to Patterson Fire Department Tuesday through Friday.
In a news release Tuesday, Vergano announced he is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Wayne to hold a Power Up! Power Bar collection.
"We will be collecting Power Bars, Kind Bars, Granola Bars, Fruit Bars and other healthy snacks that our doctors, nurses and hospital staff can grab on the go while saving lives," according to the release.
Donations will go directly to workers at St. Joseph's Hospital in Wayne and Chilton Medical Center.
