Wayne Roads Begin Icing Over As Sleet, Freezing Rain Fall

Roads are expected to get worse and travel more treacherous.

WAYNE, NJ — Township roads are starting to ice over as sleet and freezing rain coat North Jersey.

Route 202 and Ratzer Road are icy and motorists are urged to use caution when driving on these and other roads.

Gov. Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency Monday night and a partial travel ban was put in place. Schools throughout the state were closed Tuesday. The commute home is expected to be treacherous for motorists.

"It's going to be a mess pretty much everywhere," Murphy said.

A winter storm warning was issued for Sussex, Passaic, Morris, Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren counties while a winter weather advisory was declared for the rest of the state, except for Cape May County.
