Authorities said the driver fled after running into a 58-year-old woman on Wednesday night. The woman died Friday afternoon.

PASSAIC, NJ — Officials say a driver fled the scene after hitting a 58-year-old pedestrian in Passaic City, who later died at the hospital from her injuries.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is looking for looking for any information the public may have on a vehicle or suspect involved in the crash, a spokesperson said.

The woman, identified as Rachel McNeil, was struck at the intersection of Passaic Avenue and Aycrigg Avenue around 11:13 p.m. on Wednesday, said officials. First responders took McNeil, a Passaic resident, to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in critical condition.

Authorities said the vehicle that struck her fled the area in an unknown direction. Passaic Mayor Hector Lora told NorthJersey.com that city police arrested a suspect shortly before McNeil died, though the Prosecutor's Office did not announce charges against anyone.
