Woman Had $15K In SUV With Hidden Compartment: Prosecutor

Anibel Velez, 36, was stopped driving a Nissan Rogue in Ridgefield Sunday, authorities said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A woman was charged with money laundering after authorities found $15,000 and a secret compartment inside the SUV she was driving, acting Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo announced.

Anibel Velez, 36, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was driving a gray 2008 Nissan Rogue Sunday when members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Narcotics Task Force stopped her in Ridgefield, Calo said.

Authorities searched the SUV and found $15,000 and an electronically-operated, aftermarket hidden compartment, Calo said.

Velez was charged with transporting or possessing property known or which a reasonable person would believe to be derived from criminal activity, Calo said.

Velez was released on her own recognizance pending an appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack Jan. 2.
