1 Killed, 1 Injured When Pickup Truck Crashes Off South Jersey Roadway: Police

The driver sustained 'moderate' injuries, while his passenger was killed, authorities said.

PILESGROVE, NJ — A passenger was killed and the driver was injured when a pickup truck crashed off a rural roadway Friday in Salem County, authorities said.

It happened just before 2 a.m. in Pilesgrove Township, said Tpr. Christopher Postorino, a State Police spokesperson.

A passenger in the Ford F-150 — Edward G. Mayers III, 20, of Mullica Hill — died in the crash, Postorino said.

The driver — a 21-year-old Bridgeton man — sustained "moderate" injuries and was brought to the hospital, Postorino said.

While traveling east on Whig Lane Road, the Ford went off the roadway to the right, according to preliminary findings from State Police. The vehicle hit a tree and a utility pole before overturning, Postorino said.

The crash remains under investigation, and authorities had no other information available on Monday.
