Camden Man Charged in West Deptford Burglary, Theft

Michael A. Monroe was arrested in Camden City with a gun that had been stolen from Evesham Twp. and an ID from a resident of Carter Hill Drive in West Deptford.

A Camden man who was arrested on weapons charges after police found him sleeping in a car has been linked to a string of other burglaries and thefts in three counties, including one that occurred in West Deptford on November 12.

On November 17, Camden County Police reported discovering Michael Monroe, 37, on 26th Street in Camden, asleep inside a Nissan Maxima registered to his former girlfriend.

Inside the vehicle, officers found a loaded Ruger .357-caliber revolver that had been reported stolen out of Evesham, seven boxes of .22-caliber Winchester long rifle ammunition, and a Crossman Mark 2 pellet gun.

Monroe was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, certain persons not to have weapons and receiving stolen property. He was remanded to the Camden County correctional facility on $376,000 cash-or-bond bail.

But police also recovered several IDs, checkbooks, and other stolen property from the vehicle, including one ID that had been stolen from a residence in the 700 block of Carter Hill Drive in West Deptford—an incident in which jewelry and electronics were also reported missing.

The next day, police from Evesham Township, West Deptford, and other towns from Camden and Burlington Counties executed a search warrant on the vehicle.
