DEPTFORD, NJ — Joe's Crab Shack will soon permanently close its Deptford restaurant — the beach-themed seafood chain's last-remaining New Jersey location.

The Deptford restaurant will shutter in about a month, according to COO Terry Turney, who gave Patch the following statement through a spokesperson:

"Due to a natural lease expiration, Joe's Crab Shack located at 2000 Clements Bridge Road in Deptford, NJ will close its doors on May 26, 2024. We thank the community for the many years of support. We value our employees, their dedication to our company, and are working to relocate them to our sister locations nearby."

It's unclear whether employees could get transferred to other Joe's Crab Shack locations or other restaurants operated by its parent company, Landry's. Once the Deptford restaurant closes, Joe's will no longer have any East Coast locations. Landry's, however, owns a handful of restaurants in Greater Philadelphia — primarily steakhouses and seafood eateries.

Joe's Crab Shack has closed dozens of restaurants in recent years. But the chain's prior owner went bankrupt in 2017, and about 40 of its 110 locations shuttered during court proceedings. Landry's acquired Joe's at a bankruptcy auction that year.

The chain currently only lists 30 locations, including Deptford's. Joe's Crab Shack in Clifton abruptly closed at the end of last year.

42 Freeway first reported the Deptford restaurant's upcoming closure.
