Juvenile Charged With Murder After Stabbing Woman In South Jersey: Prosecutor

The suspect, 17, stabbed the victim multiple times in a South Jersey home, authorities said.

VINELAND, NJ — A teenager was charged with murder after the juvenile suspect stabbed a woman at a South Jersey home, authorities said Friday.

Vineland Police were alerted of a possible homicide around 4 a.m. Friday on Union Road. The victim — Christina Asselta, 38 — had been stabbed multiple times, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office.

First responders rendered aid, but Asselta succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Investigators identified the suspect as a 17-year-old who knew the victim. Authorities believe this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.

The juvenile was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon (knife) and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. They are currently detained, authorities said Friday afternoon.
