Man Fatally Struck Jogger, Fled Scene In South Jersey: Police

The driver called 911 about the crash about 20 minutes later, authorities said.

NEWFIELD, NJ — A man fatally struck a jogger in broad daylight and briefly tried to flee the scene Sunday morning in Gloucester County, authorities said.

Emmanuel Anakwah struck the jogger on a roadway in Newfield and fled the premises around 8:10 a.m., officials said. Less than 20 minutes later, he called 911 to report that he was involved in a crash, according to police.

The victim — Mckeon C. Mckeon-Fish, 35, of Newfield — was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anakwah was driving south on Madison Avenue when he struck Mckeon-Fish near Dalton Avenue, authorities said. Police believe Mckeon-Fish was jogging south on Madison Avenue during the crash.

Just before 8:30 a.m., Anakwah called 911 and said he was involved in a crash on Madison Avenue, police said. Officers found Anakwah parked on the 300 block of Catawba Avenue — down the road from the crash scene.

Anakwah, 36, of Newfield, was taken into custody without incident. He was charged on a summons with leaving the scene of a deadly accident and then released.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation, police said.
