NJ Prosecutors Assn' Offering $3,500 Law and Justice Scholarships

Students pursing a career in law and justice, child advocacy, or continuing their law enforcement education can apply for one of four $3,500 scholarships from the County Prosecutors Association of the State of New Jersey.

The scholarship program is open only to New Jersey residents of financial need who have either been accepted to law or graduate school or are sworn law enforcement officers pursuing collegiate or graduate-level education.

Applications must be postmarked by Sept. 15.

Each of the four scholarships is named for a late county prosecutor: Harris Y. Cotton, Oscar W. Rittenhouse, Andrew K. Ruotolo, Jr. and John H. Stamler.

Cotton was a Gloucester County prosecutor who died in 1997; the scholarship that bears his name is "intended for an applicant pursuing a career as a prosecutor specializing in domestic violence or hate crimes," according to a press release from the association.

Rittenhouse, a Hunterdon County prosecutor who died in 1979, is the namesake of a scholarship intended for an applicant pursuing a career as a prosecutor. 

Ruotolo, Jr. was a Union County prosecutor who died in 1995; the scholarship named for him is intended for an applicant with an interest in “enhancing the rights and well-being of children through child advocacy programs.”

Stamler was also a Union County prosecutor who died in 1990; the scholarship named for his memory is intended for a sworn law enforcement officer seeking educational advancement.
