1 Car Theft, 1 Attempted Theft In Westfield Last Week: Police

Car thefts are trending downward in Westfield, but the town saw one successful and one attempted theft last week, according to police.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield saw one successful car theft and one attempted theft last week, according to the most recent police blotter.

Car thefts have been trending downward in Westfield so far this year, with a total of five stolen this year-to-date.

Two weeks ago, however, Westfield saw several car burglaries, as a few residents reported that valuables were stolen from their cars.

Most recently, a car was stolen overnight on Normandy Drive on Sunday, May 22, according to police. The 2021 Volkswagen, valued at approximately $45,000, was parked in a resident's driveway at the time of theft, and the resident told police that the car keys were left inside the vehicle.

The resident said there were no items of value in the vehicle at the time of the theft.

Earlier last week, on May 18, a resident from Nomahegan Drive reported a car burglary and a motor vehicle attempted theft. According to police, the suspect entered the unlocked vehicle, turned it on and attempted to maneuver ti around other parked vehicles in the driveway but was unsuccessful.

The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled the area in another awaiting vehicle, police said. The suspect was described as a man wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored pants.
