2 People Shot At With Airsoft Gun In Westfield Over Weekend: Police

The two people were shot at with an air soft gun or BB gun, police said. Several similar incidents have occurred in Westfield recently.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Two people were shot at with an airsoft gun or BB gun on Saturday in Westfield, according to police.

The two victims told police that the assault occurred in the area of Elm Street and Orchard Street on Saturday at around 5 p.m., according to the most recent Westfield Police blotter.

Police said that two unknown people riding in a small, black-colored four-door sedan shot them with "unknown projectiles" from an airsoft gun or BB gun. The victims told police that they saw a white and orange-colored airsoft gun or BB gun, which was used to shoot the unknown projectiles.

One victim was struck in the lower legs, while the other victim was hit in the left arm. Police said no injuries or marks were reported at the time of the incident.

According to police, the suspect vehicle traveled north and fled the area after the incident.

Similar incidents have occurred in the last few months.

Two people reported that they were hit during a pellet gun shooting in April in the area of East Broad Street and Elmer Street.

At the time, Michael Walsh of Westfield Police Department said the guns were described in the report as "splat guns." Splat guns typically contain soft water gel beads that can blast the small pellets.

In related news, a TikTok trend — dubbed the "Orbeez Challenge" — has been circulating throughout the country for the past few months. The trend encourages people to shoot Orbeez pellets at others with a gel blaster gun or other toy gun.

Another incident occurred in Westfield in late March when a woman was shot at with plastic pellets with an airsoft gun. The suspects drove up alongside her and shot several pellets at her, according to Westfield Police.
