3 Indicted In Union County Carjacking, Armed Robberies

Three men were indicted in connection with the Union County crime spree that took place in December 2022 and January 2023.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Three men were indicted in connection with a string of armed robberies and one carjacking that took place throughout Union County December 2022 and January 2023, authorities said.

Isaiah Barrett, 33 of Elizabeth, Alfred Pierre, 37 of Roselle and Daron Thomas, 32 of East Orange, were charged in four separate indictments totalling 56 counts, including several counts of first-degree robbery, first-degree carjacking and first-degree firearms possession, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office announced Friday.

Barrett, Pierre and Thomas went on a “month-long spree” that began on Dec. 15, 2022 in Roselle, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Melissa Caparruva, and went on to commit robberies on Dec. 26 in Linden, Jan. 2 in Elizabeth and Jan. 4 in Orange.

During a Jan. 8 robbery in Linden, Barrett and Thomas committed both a robbery and a carjacking, Caparruva said.

A subsequent investigation led to the identification and arrest of the trio in April. They have been lodged in the Essex County Jail pending a formal arraignment in July.

Barrett was previously arrested for one of the robberies that happened on Dec. 26, 2022 in Linden. He has also been charged with falsely reporting a crime to law enforcement and employing a juvenile to corroborate his false report.

“I want to assure the public that the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and our partner law enforcement agencies remain committed to tirelessly pursuing those who threaten the safety and security of the communities we serve”, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel said in a statement.

If convicted, the three face sentences ranging from 20 years to life in state prison.
