60 Roads To Be Repaved In Westfield In 2025
The Westfield Town Council awarded a $2 million contract on Tuesday to get started on this year's road paving initiative.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Smoother roadways are coming to Westfield.
The Town Council awarded a $2,193,206.20 contract on Tuesday to P&A Construction, Inc. in Rahway for the 2025 Various Road Improvements project in Westfield.
Town Administrator Jim Gildea gave the Council a brief overview of the 2025 road program, which includes 60 roads to be repaved.

The effort to repave the roadways is a combined effort by Elizabeth Town Gas and Westfield.
"Elizabeth Town Gas is expected to touch 20 sections or full roadways that they have done infrastructure work on and repave them this year," said Gildea on Tuesday. "As of today, seven of those 20 roads have already been finished."

Under the approved $2 million resolution, Gildea said another 40 full or partial roadways will be repaved.
Of those 40, two roads - Clover Street and Francis Terrace - have already been completed as they were state aid jobs carried over from last year.
Another two roads of the 40 are state-funded and are currently in the design phase. Elm Street between Walnut Street and North Avenue, and Rahway Avenue between Cotting Avenue and Willow Road will both be fall projects.
The other sections of Elm Street and Rahway Avenue will be paved by Elizabeth Town Gas, where they are already doing work.
"We were able to shrink our need for funding for some of those roads. But we have many other roadways that are going to be addressed this year and as well as some drainage issues," said Gildea.
The town is also working to improve pedestrian pathways.
"Last year we did two pathways in town between Coolidge Street and Harding Street for Washington School. We did another one over by Sedgewick Court in the Franklin school area," said Gildea.
This year, the town will undertake a major project over by Tamaques School and Edison School, which is the pathway that goes from Willow Grove through Normandy to Vermont Street. This will also include paving Vermont Street.
This "has been many years in the making because of development over there," said Gildea. "And then making that a much wider, safer route. … It’s a very heavily used pedestrian path to Tamaques and to Edison School."
The resolution was unanimously passed by the Town Council.
"I am very excited tonight to have that project awarded, and this contractor, who we worked with before, is eager to get started," said Gildea. "We could get started in a few weeks on some of the roadways."
