'Aggressive' Westfield House Fire On Unami Terrace Over Weekend: FD

WESTFIELD, NJ — A large fire occurred at a single-family home on Unami Terrace in Westfield over the weekend, according to an announcement from the Westfield Fire Department.

The two-and-a-half story home at 38 Unami Terrace had heavy smoke billowing from all sides when firefighters arrived at around 5:36 p.m. on Saturday. No people were inside the home at the time of the fire, and fire units confirmed it was an "aggressive interior fire attack."

According the Fire Department, the incident escalated to three alarms, bringing Union County Fire Mutual Aid companies to come to the scene. Emergency medical services from around the county assisted in providing firefighter rehabilitation.

The was fire was under control at 7:15 p.m., with Westfield Fire Department personnel working into late evening hours.

The cause of the fire was determined to be "electrical in nature," according to an investigation led by Westfield Fire Prevention Bureau, Westfield Police Department, Union County Fire Investigation Task Force and NJ State Fire Marshal's office.

The Westfield Construction Official deemed the dwelling as uninhabitable after the fire.

The Westfield Fire Department reminds residents that working smoke alarms save lives and to make sure smoke alarms are tested monthly. Alarms should be less than 10 years old.
