Downer Street Resident Reports Attempted Burglary

An unknown person damaged the doorframe and lock by attempting entry, police said.

A Westfield resident reported an attempted burglary to their Downer Street home on Jan. 17, police said.

The resident said an unknown person attempted to pry open the rear door of the residence between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., according to Westfield Police. The prying resulted in damage to the doorframe and lock.

Nothing was taken from the residence and it was unclear if the person gained entry.

Days later, a resident of the 1100 block of Central Avenue reported that between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 someone punctured a hole through the wood panel of the interior rear side door of the home and gained entry, Westfield Police said. The burglar or burglars stole jewelry form the residence.
