New Residential, Retail Project Breaks Ground In Westfield

An underground parking garage is also part of the plans.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A new mixed-use, four-story building is coming to Westfield.

Mayor Brindle was joined by other project leaders on Dec. 11 at the former site of The Sophia at the corner of Prospect Street and Ferris Place for the groundbreaking of "The Vantage."

The site at 112 Ferris Pl. will include 60 residential units, with nine of those being designated as affordable housing. There will also be an underground parking garage and a ground-floor retail space.

"I'm thrilled to see this project finally get underway, which represents the smart development ideals that have guided our planning process," said Brindle.

The project will also secure the relocation and adaptive reuse of the Mills-Ferris-Pearsall House. This 18th-century home on Ferris Place is a historic landmark, one that Brindle said will be restored into an educational and cultural resource "ensuring its history remains an active part of the site's future."

The Vantage is part of the Town's "Prospect & Ferris Redevelopment Plan" that was adopted in 2021. The first residents will be welcomed in 2027.

The units will feature one-, two-, and three-bedroom layouts. According to Vango Development, the measurements, detailing, and landscaping were "intentionally designed" to honor neighborhood character and "create a welcoming architectural entry into Downtown Westfield."
