Calling All Artists: A New Art Installation Is Coming To Westfield

Westfield Public Arts Commission is seeking local artists to paint a mural outside of the old Rialto theater in town.

WESTFIELD, NJ — It's time for residents to show off their artistic skills, as the Westfield Public Arts Commission is looking for artists to create a public installation, called Artist Alley, at the old Rialto Theater.

The new Artist Alley, along the side of the Rialto building, connecting Broad Street to the parking lot, will soon become a permanent art installation.

The WPAC is asking that artists submit full color complete designs by Aug. 22 to publicart@westfieldnj.gov. The aim is for each artist to express their "unique vision and artistic expression of creativity."

Murals will be completed directly on the brick wall, according to the WPAC. 2D and 3D mosaics/wall sculpture designs will be accepted.

Recognition will be given to each artists who contributes.

The Rialto movie theater closed down suddenly before the pandemic and reopened in 2021 as the Center for Creativity at the Rialto — a venue that mixes art and literature with film and live performance.

Westfield Arts Collective purchased the theater in October of last year.
