Car Thefts On The Rise In Westfield, Police Chief Says
Two cars were stolen in Westfield last week, according to an announcement from Mayor Shelley Brindle.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Police Chief Christopher Battiloro said there has been a recent increase in car thefts and attempted thefts in the Westfield area, according to an update from Mayor Shelley on Friday.
Just last week, two car thefts occurred in Westfield. This included the theft of a Land Rover from a driveway on Lynn Lane on July 2, and the theft of a Porsche Macan from the parking lot of Nomahegan Swim Club on July 3, according to Brindle.
Brindle wrote that both cars were unlocked with the key fobs left inside at the time of their thefts.

In addition, on the afternoon of July 7, there was an attempted theft of a car parked on Harrison Avenue, which was also unlocked, Brindle said.
Brindle reminds residents to lock their vehicles and remove key fobs, regardless of the hour of the day.

A series of car burglaries and acts of criminal mischief also occurred in Westfield two weeks ago.

Chief Battiloro reminds residents to never confront suspected perpetrators, but instead call the Westfield Police Department immediately via 9-1-1.
