Chickens With Heads Cut Off Found In Lake At Westfield Park

Small plastic containers with what appeared to be incense and pennies, oranges with an "X" cut into them, & candles were also found: Police.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Three chickens with their heads cut off were found in a lake at Brightwood Park in Westfield, said police.

On June 1 at 2:05 p.m., a suspicious incident in Brightwood Park on Prospect Street was reported to the Westfield Police Department.

Patrol officers saw and collected three chickens with their heads cut off that were around five feet in the lake, according to the police blotter.

Near the edge of the water, officers also found five yellow plates:

  • Two were empty
  • One had five oranges on it with two cuts on them in the shape of an "X"
  • One had five small plastic containers on it containing what appeared to be incense and pennies
  • One had five glass jars on it, containing what appeared to be honey

There were also two yellow candles in glass jars near the edge of the water that were found next to the area of the yellow plates.

The origin of these items is not known at this time, said police.
