Cooling Center + Safety Tips For Hot Weather In Westfield
The heat wave in Union County is expected to continue through Sunday, with temperatures reaching 100 degrees.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A heat advisory remains in effect for Union County through Sunday at 8 p.m., with temperatures reaching up to 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
For Westfield residents who need an escape from the oppressive heat, the Westfield Memorial Library has been designated as a cooling center and is available during its hours of operation.
The library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. It is closed on Sunday.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity and check on any neighbors in need. They are also reminded to not leave children or pets unattended in a car.

In addition, New Jersey American Water is asking customers to voluntarily limit all non-essential water use until further notice. Customers should use the following schedule for outdoor watering needs:
- If your street address ends in an even number, please water on even-numbered dates.
- If your street address ends in an odd number, please water on odd-numbered dates.
Residents are also advised to water early or late in the day to minimize evaporation.
American Water advises that, should current conditions continue, a mandatory conservation notice may follow.
