Sugar Poured Down Car Gas Tank In Westfield: Police

Westfield Police reported a number of car burglaries, thefts and criminal mischief last week.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield saw several incidents of criminal mischief, car burglaries and theft last week, according to Westfield Police blotter.

Car burglaries and thefts have become a common occurrence in Westfield and surrounding Union County towns.

An incident of criminal mischief occurred on Monday, June 27 when a resident on the 400 block of Everson Place reported to police that an unknown individual poured sugar into her car's gas tank. Police said this caused mechanical issues with car's engine, which will require repair.

Police said the cost of repairs was unknown at the time of the initial investigation.

In another incident on Tuesday, June 26, a resident from the 500 block of Carelton told police that she was the victim of a car burglary, criminal mischief and theft.

The resident said her car was parked in front of her home when a person made entry and removed her bank card, as well as $100 from the center console. She told police that the car was locked when the incident occurred. According to police, the bank card was used to withdraw $1,000 from her bank account.

Lastly, a resident on the 200 block of Lynn Lane reported that their car was stolen on Saturday at around 4:16 a.m. The resident told police that the unknown person entered their car, which had the key fob inside, and stole the car, which was parked in the resident's driveway.

The resident told police that there is a video of the incident.
