Westfield Cop Arrests DWI Driver With Loaded Gun In Tamaques Park: Police
Westfield Police Sergeant Ryan Weiss is being commended for arresting a driver who police say had a car full of beer cans and a loaded gun.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield Police Sergeant Ryan Weiss is being commended for arresting a driver who had a car full of beer cans and a loaded gun in Tamaques Park.
On Wednesday, May 14 at around 12:14 a.m., Ryan Weiss saw a suspicious vehicle present in Tamaques Park.
Weiss approached to investigate, and determined its driver and sole occupant, Jonathan R. Tice, 29, of Scotch Plains, was driving while intoxicated, said police.

In addition to a large quantity of empty and partially consumed beer cans in the vehicle, Weiss also saw a Springfield Armory 9mm magazine on the rear passenger seat. It was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition, said police.
During a further search, Weiss found a loaded Springfield Armory XD-9 9mm handgun in the vehicle as well. There was a round in its chamber and 14 rounds of ammunition in the magazine inserted into it. An additional round was found on the vehicle’s floor, according to police.

In addition to driving while intoxicated, consumption of an alcoholic beverage in a vehicle, and refusal to submit to chemical breath testing, Tice was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and unlawful possession of a high-capacity magazine.
He was committed to the Essex County Jail in Newark pending further court proceedings

On May 11 at 1:18 a.m.: Yannique L. Sousa, 28, Wilmington, DE, was placed under arrest on Elmer Street during a motor vehicle stop at Elmer Street and Lenox Avenue under the strength of an active $2,000 ATS warrant. Sousa was taken to the Westfield Police Headquarters and released upon the issuance of a ROR.
