Firefighters Put Out Kitchen Fire Monday In Westfield
Smoke was seen at the front door of the home.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Three pets were rescued unharmed from a burning kitchen Monday afternoon, the Westfield Fire Department said.
At around 4:20 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of smoke in the 800 block of Fairacres Avenue and found smoke showing in the front door. They determined the main body of the fire was actively burning in the kitchen.
Officials attacked the fire while other firefighters searched for anyone inside. Everyone had already safely evacuated.

Three pets were rescued safely and moved to the outside of the home.
The fire was deemed under control at 4:40 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Multiple Union County Fire Mutual Aid agencies assisted with the response to the two-alarm fire. Westfield Police officers aided in safely removing the animals, security at the home, and directing traffic.

The Westfield Fire Department encourages residents to check smoke alarms monthly. Devices should be less than 10 years old.
