UNION COUNTY, NJ — High winds and rain could carry over into Union County over the weekend as nearby parts of the Garden State are bracing to get hit hard with a powerful nor'easter storm.

Beginning on Friday night and progressing through Monday, the National Weather Service is warning nearby counties to prepare for wind gusts of 40 miles per hour and significant flooding. Three inches of rainfall are estimated to accumulate in Union County.

Along the coast, that number could get as high as eight inches. A State of Emergency for all of New Jersey will go into effect on Saturday night.

"Union County's emergency management team continues to monitor the nor'easter closely," said Michael Scanio, Director of Union County Emergency Services, "and remains in coordination with municipal partners, first responders, and utility companies to ensure readiness across all 21 municipalities."

Light rain is set to begin on Saturday morning and gradually increase throughout the day on Sunday. Radar shows moderate to heavy rain becoming heavy downpours by Sunday night.

Officials are warning of scattered power outages and intermittent periods of flash flooding that could begin as early as Friday.

"County crews are prepared to respond to any localized flooding, downed trees, or other storm-related issues that may arise," added Scanio.
