Heat Advisory Issued For Union County Due To Hot Temperatures, High Humidity

Heat index values up to 100 degrees are expected, according to the National Weather Service.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A Heat Advisory was issued for Union County due to forecasted hot temperatures and high humidity.

The National Weather Service(NWS) issued the Heat Advisory from 12 p.m. on Friday through 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Heat index values up to 100 degrees are expected. The NWS warns that hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.

"Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures," according to the NWS.

Additionally, the weather will remain very warm and humid tonight offering little relief from the heat.

Precautions to stay cool:

  • Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning
  • If you don't have home air conditioning, continue to seek out cool spaces each day as long as it remains hot, and for a few days after if your home is still hot
  • Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors
  • To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments
  • Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location
  • Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 911.

Friday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 a.m. Patchy fog after 11 p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 74. Southwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after noon. Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 91. Heat index values as high as 101. Southwest wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 2 a.m. Patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. Southwest wind 3 to 8 mph.

Sunday: Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 91. West wind 3 to 7 mph.
