HudsonWay Immersion School announced today it is launching a new Middle School track designed to provide motivated incoming 4th-6th grade students with limited prior exposure to Mandarin or Spanish the opportunity to develop biliteracy by 8th grade. Called the “Accelerated Bilingual Cohort (ABC),” the new program supports a group of students in learning content such as language arts, humanities, and math taught through a second language. This program is ideal for those students seeking challenge and readiness for a global future. A special financial program is offered for students in the first incoming class.
“We have had several students join our immersion program in the late elementary or start of middle school achieving biliteracy goals, setting them up for advantages in high school and beyond”, said Sharon Huang, founder and board chair of HudsonWay Immersion School (HWIS). “Our model for transitioning and supporting students’ has been successful which is why we are now launching a formal Middle School Track to accommodate more students in making this exciting leap into a dual-immersion education.”
Students entering this track will receive instruction in the second language for 40% of the day taught by trained middle school teachers who are native speakers. The remaining portion of the day will be taught in English and will cover English language arts, math and science. Students will be combined with the current immersion track for subjects taught in English. The middle school program includes opportunities for global service learning, capstone projects, and collaboration studies with other schools. Parents and students interested in learning more are invited to attend a special virtual information session that will detail the program model, curriculum and support for this new track to be held on May 1, 2024.
