Man Tries To Break Into Car In Westfield Parking Lot, Charged: Police
The Westfield Police blotter also included 3 arrests for outstanding warrants and fraud.
WESTFIELD, NJ — A man was arrested after police say he was trying to break into a car in a Westfield parking lot last week.
On June 5 at 11:14 p.m., Westfield Police Officers responded to Westfield Municipal Lot 8 off W. North Avenue for a report of a person trying to gain access to a vehicle.
Officers found the person, Christian M. Viera-Escobar, 25, of Newark, according to the police blotter.

Viera-Escobar was placed under arrest for attempted motor vehicle burglary and taken to headquarters.
Viera-Escobar was processed and released on a summons with a mandatory Union County Municipal Court date.

Other Westfield Police Blotter items – June 1 to June 7:
On June 3 at 10:30 a.m.: A wallet was stolen on the 100 block of Elmer Street.
On June 5 at 12:32 a.m.: A motor vehicle stop was conducted on Piero F. Navarro Galvez, 23, of Bay Shore, NY, on South Avenue near Maple Street in Garwood for a motor vehicle violation in Westfield. Two active ATS warrants from Cranford and Roselle were located for $250 each. Galvez was arrested and then released on the scene on a ROR with new court dates.
On June 5 at 3 a.m.: Jonathan Miles, 43, of North Brunswick, was placed under arrest for an active ACS Warrant out of Edison Municipal Court. Miles was pulled over in the area of the 500 block of Central Avenue, placed under arrest, and taken to Westfield Police headquarters. Once processing was complete, Miles was turned over to the Edison Police Department.
On June 5 at 3:49 p.m.: A resident of the 700 block of Summit Avenue responded to the Westfield Police Department and filed a report of an attempted fraud regarding a fraudulent check being mailed in exchange for items for sale.
On June 5 at 5:04 p.m.: Alvaro Varhashuertas, 58, Elizabeth, was placed under arrest following a motor vehicle stop in the 500 block of West South Avenue on the strength of a $750 traffic warrant out of Elizabeth. Vargashuertas was released on the scene upon the issuance of a ROR and new court date.
On June 6 at 7:19 p.m.: A report was taken from a business in the 400 block of East North Avenue regarding fraud. An individual used a fraudulent ID during the purchase of a vehicle, which was discovered after the purchase was made.
