Woman Hit By Car, Critically Injured Trying To Cross Street In Westfield
The 57-year-old Kenilworth woman was taken by medivac to a nearby hospital on Monday morning, said police.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A woman was flown by medivac to a hospital in critical condition after she was hit by car while trying to cross Central Avenue in Westfield on Monday.
At 8:24 a.m., a 57-year-old Kenilworth woman was trying to cross from the east side of Central Avenue to the west side of the street, said Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro.
The woman was hit about 50 feet or so south of E. South Ave. by New Jersey Turnpike Authority-owned vehicle operated by an employee of the NJTA, who was driving south on Central Avenue, said Battiloro.

The woman was treated at the scene by Westfield Fire, Police and EMS, and Paramedics from Atlantic Health.
She was later taken by New Jersey State Police helicopter to University Hospital in Newark, a level 1 trauma center.

"NorthSTAR just laned at Sycamore Field to transport a critically injured patient due to a serious motor vehicle crash on Central Avenue," said Town of Westfield, NJ Fire Department.
The incident is under investigation by the Westfield Police Department’s Traffic Safety and Detective Bureaus, assisted by the Union County Police Accident Investigation Team and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.
Central Avenue remains closed in both directions between South Avenue and Cacciola Place near the scene as of 11:15 a.m. It will remain closed until further notice as the investigation ensues.
