Route 22 Overnight Lane Closures Expected Over Next Few Weeks In Union County
The work is part of a $7.3 million federally funded pavement preservation project using slurry seal on Route 22.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Drivers can expect overnight lane closureson Route 22 in both directions over the next few weeks as the Route 22 Dickens Lane to Fairway Drive pavement preservation project nears completion in Union County.
Closures will begin at 9 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28 until 6 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, and again on Thursday, Aug. 29 at the same time.
The left lane and shoulder are scheduled to be closed on Route 22 westbound just after the Hibachi Steakhouse in Mountainside through Dickens Lane in Scotch Plains.

The closures are necessary to complete the application of slurry seal. At least one lane will be maintained during construction, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
Next week, from 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, and continuing each night through Friday, Sept. 6 at the same times, Route 22 westbound and eastbound will have lane closures to complete the remaining slurry seal application required on the project and also to perform repairs on areas that have been damaged.

At least one lane will remain open during construction.
Over the next few weeks, there will be overnight lane closures from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the next day, Monday through Friday, on Route 22 eastbound and westbound to install raised pavement markers (RPMs), rumble strips, and to restripe the roadway to complete the project.
The work is part of a $7.3 million federally funded pavement preservation project using slurry seal on Route 22 that is improving approximately six miles of Route 22 westbound between Fairway Drive in Union Township and Dickens Lane in Scoth Plains, and about two and a half miles of Route 22 eastbound between approximately Springfield Avenue in Springfield and Fairway Drive in Union Township.
The project is expected to be completed in September.
