Route 22 Repaving Project: Overnight Closures To Last Weeks
The lane closures spanning from Somerset County to Union County will begin on Monday night.
SOMERSET/UNION COUNTIES, NJ — Overnight closures on Route 22 West will begin Monday night and continue over the next several weeks, announced New Jersey Department of Transportation.
The lane closures will be from Mountain Road/CR 634 in Westfield, Union County to Wilson Avenue in North Plainfield, Somerset County as part of the pavement preservation project.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 25, until 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, and continuing nightly Monday through Friday at the same times for the next several weeks, a single lane on Route 22 westbound is scheduled to be closed between Mountain Road/CR 634 and Wilson Avenue.

The lane closures are necessary for milling and paving. At least one lane will be maintained during construction.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays while driving through the work zone or plan an alternate route.

This work is part of a $4.9 million federally funded project that will mill and pave approximately four and a half miles of Route 22 between Wilson Avenue in North Plainfield, Somerset County and Mountain Road/CR 634 in Westfield, Union County.
Construction is expected to be completed in late summer 2024.
