Jessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne Netflix Thriller Has Westfield Roots

The new film, based on the murderous career of well-known NJ serial killer Charles Cullen, was co-produced by a Westfield resident.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A new Netflix thriller will center around Charles Cullen, one of New Jersey's most well-known serial killers, and a longtime Westfield resident is a producer on the film.

Michael Jackman, 19-year resident of Westfield, helped produce "The Good Nurse" which is set to air this fall, according to P.J. Dantonello of Netflix.

The film will follow actress Jessica Chastain who suspects her colleague Cullen, played by Eddie Redmayne, is responsible for a series of patient deaths.

This is based off a book with the same name "The Good Nurse" by Charles Graeber, which chronicles Cullen's murderous career.

Cullen confessed to murdering up to 40 patients during the course of his 16-year career as a nurse in New Jersey. However, in subsequent interviews with police, psychiatrists and nurses, it is suspected that Cullen killed around 400 patients by using lethal doses of insulin and other drugs.

He was only convicted of the murder of 29 patients at nine New Jersey and Pennsylvania hospitals. Cullen was also famously known as "The Angel of Death."

In New Jersey, Cullen worked at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Warren Hospital, Hunterdon Medical Center, Morristown Memorial Hospital and finally Somerset Medical Center (now called RWJ University Somerset Hospital) where 13 patients were killed, according to nj.com.

Arrested in December 2005, Culled was sentenced to 11 consecutive life sentences in New Jersey and six more life sentences in Pennsylvania in 2006. He is not eligible for parole until 2403, according to nj.com. Cullen is currently 62 years old.

According to Vanity Fair, the film explores how the American health care system and hospital administrations allowed Cullen to move from hospital to hospital, even as suspicions rose about his actions.

Besides Jackman, the film is also produced by Scott Franklin and Darren Aronofsky who has produced films like "Black Swan" (2010) and "Mother!" (2017). It is also directed by Danish screenwriter Tobias Lindholm.

Both Academy Award-winning actors, Chastain is best known for her work in "Zero Dark Thirty," "Interstellar" and "Molly's Game." Redmayne is known for "Les Misérables," "The Theory of Everything," "Fantastic Beasts" and "The Danish Girl."

Other actors on the film include Nnamdi Asomugha, Kim Dickens, Malik Yoba, Alix West Lefler, and Noah Emmerich.
