Westfield Boys Lacrosse Wins Union County Title

Top-seeded Westfield High School won the Union County Tournament over the weekend.

The Westfield High Schools boys lacrosse team won the Union County Tournament over the weekend, defeating second-seed Summit.

The Westfield boys defeated Summit High School 4-3 in triple overtime to win the Union County Tournament Final at Johnson High School in Clark on Saturday, May 9, according to a report from NJ.com.

Westfield jumped to a quick 2-0 lead to start the match, with goals from Brandon Leuthold midway through the first and Patrick Aslanian with just under seven minutes left, according to NJ.com.

Summit battled back and quickly responded with a goal from Corey McManus with 4:15 left. Summit’s Evan Kulpan scored the equalizer with 30 seconds left, NJ.com said.

Summit took the lead in the third quarter after Kulpan scored again right before the quarter ended, the report said. Westfield was able to fight back to tie the game at 3-3 after Luke Prybylski scored with little more than two minutes left.

Westfield was able to clinch the game in the third overtime period after a goal from James Bohlinger.
