Westfield Boys Tennis Wins Union County Tournament

The Westfield High School boys tennis team wins the county tournament for the 11th consecutive year.

Freshman Damien Ruparel, winning 6-3, 6-1 over Matthew Haas of Scotch Plains-Fanwood at second singles, and sophomore Owen Bartok, winning 6-1, 6-3 over Cobi Silverstein of Scotch Plains-Fanwood at third singles, both won singles titles, according to a report from NJ.com.

Juniors Will Kelly and Max Carle at second doubles took the title for second doubles for Westfield, making a total of 88 points out of a possible 100 team points, NJ.com said. Kelly and Carle defeated Bennet Herman and Vincent Motulo of Summit in a tiebreaker 8-6 in the first set and 6-3 in the second set,the report said.

Westfield finished the tournament with 88 points, followed by Summit and Scotch Plains-Fanwood each with 72, Governor Livingston with 31 and New Providence rounding out the top five with 28 points.
